The Toddler Cottage (18 months to 3 years) is an integrated program designed to provide developmentally appropriate and educative daycarewithin a safe, nurturing, creative environment. Support and services are provided in a natural setting, which allows children with developmental disabilities to learn alongside typically developing peers.
Working in collaboration with the Lanterman Regional Center, Villa’s integrated Toddler Cottage represents a joint effort to serve both low-income, poverty-level families and the developmentally disabled.
Services and curriculum provided are designed to promote improved outcomes in four areas:
- Children’s development, including health, resiliency, secure attachments, social competence, and cognitive and language development
- Family development, including parenting skills and relationships with children, the home environment and family functioning, family health, parent involvement and economic self-sufficiency
- Staff development, including professional development and relationships with parents and children
- Community development, including enhanced quality of childcare, community collaboration, and integration of services to support families with young children
Programming for children with special needs is determined by the child’s Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).
